Shops are all ready with their Christmas supplies, from festive food to wines and even decorations - the UK is tackling Christmas in a BIG way this year. But with the Communication Workers Union announcing that Royal Mail will be going on strike for 19 days across Black Friday and the build-up to Christmas, you may be feeling unsure as to the best day to send your personalised cards, and gifts across the festive period.
Whether you have family that live mere streets away, or it’s a longer journey to see one another; Christmas is a time for family and friends, socialising, gift giving and indulging in all the festivities this time of year brings. Here are our top tips on wrapping and choosing the correct postage option to ensure a smooth Christmas:
If you’re posting 2nd Class, 2nd Class Signed For and Royal Mail 48, the last day is Monday 12th December.
For 1st Class, 1st Class Signed For, Royal Mail 24 and Royal Mail Tracked 48 it’s Friday 16th December.
For Royal Mail Tracked 24 the last day is Monday 19th December.
For Special Delivery Guaranteed the last day will be Wednesday 21st December.
You don’t want to get to the post office and realise you’ve packed your parcel in the incorrect bag, delaying your sending and running the risk of late delivery.
* For packages that are an unconventional shape or have sharp edges, use a padded envelope to prevent damage in transit.
* Write a return address on the item so it isn’t lost if it doesn’t make it to the recipient.
* When posting fragile items, ensure they’re not touching each other or the side of the container they are being posted in. Include a ‘FRAGILE’ sticker if necessary.
* Ensure the container you are using is strong enough to support the weight of its contents.

Choosing the Correct Postage Option
Royal Mail have a helpful size guide to help you decide what price your letter or parcel will cost, depending on the weight. It’s worth looking at this before posting your item so you have an insight into how much the postage will be before sending your item/s.
The guide also shows the maximum weight, length, weight and thickness of each kind of item. The full guide can be found here.
